Just A Reminder! This Extremely Rare Planetary Alignment Is Happening Right Now

Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn are aligned in a straight line across the southeastern sky before dawn.

The rare alignment of the four planets has not occurred in almost 1000 years, dating all the way back to the year 947 AD.

“It’s very rare that you say that the planets are aligning and they actually do!” astrophysicist and cosmologist from the Australian National University Dr Brad Tucker told Sunrise.

“It does happen, but quite rarely.  “We often get Mars, Venus or even Jupiter joining, but the fact that they’re all aligned and evenly spaced in the early morning sky is not only rare, but it’s also a special treat because everyone can enjoy it as long as you have some clear weather.”

If the skies are clear, all four planets will be visible without the use of binoculars or a telescope.

Jupiter and Saturn will move closer together during the next couple of weeks.

Throughout the month, the planets will be visible in the predawn sky, and April's alignment will pave the way for an even more stunning skywatching event coming summer.

Between late June and early July, five planets - Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn - will be visible in the sky before daybreak in a rare grand alignment.
